By Thurston's uniformization theorem, the knots (most of them) admit a complement in \({\mathbf S}^3\), homeomorphic to a unique complete hyperbolic manifold of finite volume. The trefoil knot \(T\) does not fit into this situation; however \({\mathbf S}^3\backslash T\) is homeomorphic to the quasi-hyperbolic homogeneous space \(M:=\text{PSL}_2(\mathbb R)/\text{PSL}_2(\mathbb Z)\), having \(T\) as the unique cusp. The purpose of the paper is to study the asymptotic behaviors of the geodesic and the Brownian windings on \(M\). In contrast to the hyperbolic case (the main idea is to reduce the geodesic winding to the Brownian one), the author proves that they behave differently; to this end, the joint law of the fast and slow Brownian windings has to be considered. This is a very interesting and well-written paper. The author shows flavor in the combination of stochastic analysis with knot theory.
