Embedding fillings of contact 3-manifolds (Q2493839)

\textit{Ya.~Eliashberg} proved that every weak filling of a contact \(3\)-manifold can be symplectically embedded into a closed symplectic \(4\)-manifold [see Geom. Topol. 8, 277--293 (2004; Zbl 1067.53070)]. A similar result was independently obtained by \textit{J.~Etnyre} [Algebr. Geom. Topol. 4, 73--80 (2004; Zbl 1078.53074)]. This result was used as one of the ingredients in the proof of the ``Property P'' conjecture by \textit{P.~B.~Kronheimer} and \textit{T.~S.~Mrowka} [Geom. Topol. 8, 295--310 (2004; Zbl 1072.57005)]. This survey paper describes and compares the embeddings due to Eliashberg and Etnyre. The author also discusses some previous work on the subject and constructs an embedding using a combination of ideas developed in this paper.
