Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be two complex Banach spaces and let \(R:X\to Y\) and \(S:Y\to X\) be two bounded linear operators. In this paper, the authors show that \(RS\) and \(SR\) share the same local spectral properties, namely, the single-valued extension property, Bishop's property \((\beta)\), the decomposition property \((\delta)\), and the decomposability. They also show that \(RS\) is subscalar if and only if \(SR\) is. Furthermore, they consider a bounded linear operator \(T\) on a complex Hilbert space with the polar decomposition \(T:=U|T|\), and apply the above results for \(R:=|T|^r\) and \(S:=|T|^sU|T|^{t-r}\), (\(0\leq s,~0\leq r\leq t\)), to deduce that \(T(s,t):=|T|^{s}U|T|^{t}\) and \(T(s+r,t-r):=|T|^{s+r}U|T|^{t-r}\) (in particular, \(T=T(0,1)\) and its Aluthge transform \(\tilde T :=T(1/2,1/2)=|T|^{1/2}U|T|^{1/2}\)) share the same local spectral properties. This, together with \textit{M.~Putinar}'s result [J.~Oper.\ Theory 12, No.~2, 385--395 (1984; Zbl 0573.47016)] and the known fact that \(\widetilde{\widetilde T}\) is hyponormal for all \(w\)-hyponormal operators \(T\), allow them to derive that all \(p\)-hyponormal operators, all log-hyponormal operators and, more generally, all \(w\)-hyponormal operators are subscalar. The authors are apparently unaware that these results have been proved previously, and that the proofs are essentially the same; see Theorem 2.3, Theorem 2.4, Corollary 2.5, Corollary 2.6, Corollary 2.7, and Corollary 2.8 of the (not cited) paper [\textit{C.~Lin, Y.--B.\ Ruan} and \textit{Z.--K.\ Yan}, Integral Equations Oper.\ Theory 50, No.~2, 165--168 (2004; Zbl 1099.47023)]. In fact, all these results were first proved under extra conditions in [Integral Equations Oper.\ Theory 43, No.~3, 313--325 (2002; Zbl 1015.47018) and Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 131, No.~9, 2753--2759 (2003; Zbl 1044.47016)].
