Let \(S\) be a compact Riemann surface and let \(X\rightarrow S\) be a commutative group scheme whose generic fiber is an abelian variety of dimension \(d\). Under suitable conditions the author defines the Selberg zeta-function \(\zeta_S(s)\) and the Ruelle zeta-function \(\zeta_R(s)\) of the fibration and proves that they are meromorphic in the whole plane and that the rank of the Mordell-Weil group of the fibration is less or equal to \(\frac{1}{2}\cdot\text{ord}_{s=0}\zeta_S(s)=\frac{1}{2}\cdot \text{ord}_{s=\frac{1}{2}}\zeta_R(s)\). If \(H^2(X,{\mathcal O}_X)=0\), then equality holds.
