    At first the authors describe the Zhang model of self-organized criticality and derive bounds on the size and duration of avalanches that enables to use the Poincaré return map to reformulate the systems in a skew-product form. The contraction property is studied to conclude the hyperbolicity of the model with degenerations occurrence description. The removability of singularities concept appearing in the coding approach is introduced. Then the measure entropy and Lyapunov spectrum are stuied. It is proved that the entropy of an SRB-measure is always maximal. The topological entropy is evaluated for the most parameter values. Nearly-Zhang models are also discussed, where it is shown the invariability of dynamical quantities. The dimension issues of the model are described which enter into all interrelations involving entropy characteristic exponents and also the dimension of the attractor. In the thermodynamic limit the entropy goes to zero and the Lyapunov spectrum collapses. The most important effects in the model are illustrated by examples.
