The authors define a topological degree for the sum of two operators \(T+C\). The operator \(T\), not necessary densely defined, is single-valued and maximal monotone and \(C\) satisfies an \(L\)-related quasiboundedness condition and an \(L\)-related generalized \((S_+)\) cndition with respect to \(T\). For such a sum \(T+C\), a finite-dimensional operator \((T+C)_F\) is considered which is related with \(T+C\). The degree of \(T+C\) is defined using the Brouwer degree of \((T+C)_F\). Then basic properties of the new degree are established: the solution property, the invariance under homotopies. The operator \(T+C\) is generalized pseudomonotone if \(C\) is generalized pseudomonotone. The new degree is applied to establish an existence theorem concerning single-valued and densely defined generalized pseudomonotone perturbations.
