The authors consider the iterative functional equation \[ \sum_{i=1}^{\infty} \lambda_{i} H_{i}(f^{i}(x))=F(x), \] where \(H_{i}\) and \(F\) are given real functions and \(\lambda_{i}\) are nonnegative constants. Throughout the paper it is assumed additionally that \(\lambda_{1}>1\), \(\sum_{i=1}^{\infty} \lambda_{i} = 1\), \(H_{i}\) and \(F\) are continuously differentiable mappings of an interval \(I\) onto itself such that their first derivatives are bounded and satisfy the Lipschitz condition. Using the Schauder fixed point theorem the authors prove a sufficient condition for the existence of a continuously differentiable solution of the considered iterative equation. By application of the Banach contraction principle (under additional assumptions on the constants occurring in the proof of the existence theorem) a uniqueness result for a class of continuously differentiable solutions is obtained. The existence theorem is a generalization of a result of \textit{W. Zhang} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 15, No. 4, 387--398 (1990; Zbl 0717.39005)].
