In the original definition of the Henstock-Kurzweil integral, the gauge function \(\delta\) is an arbitrary positive function. Bullen raised the question that how complicated gauge functions are required in the definition of Henstock-Kurzweil integral. \textit{J. Foran} and \textit{S. Meinershagen} [Real Anal. Exch. 13, 265--277 (1987/88; Zbl 0662.26004)] gave an answer to the question for the real line case. In this paper, the author proves a similar result for higher dimensions. The main result is: Let \(E\) be an interval in the \(m\)-dimensional Euclidean space and \(F\) be an additive interval function such that \(V_{HK}F\) is absolutely continuous. If the function \(f:E\rightarrow R\) is given by \(f(x)=F'(x)\) when \(F'(x)\) exists and 0 otherwise, then for each \(\varepsilon >0\) there exists a Baire 2 gauge function \(\delta\) on \(E\) such that \( | \sum_{i=1}^{p}f(\xi_{i})| I_i| -F(E)| <\varepsilon\) for each \(\delta\)-fine partition \(\{(I_i, \xi_i)\}_{i=1}^p\) of \(E\).
