In 2002 the original manuscript of \textit{N. H. Abel}'s ``Remarques sur quelques propriétés générales d`une certaine sorte de fonctions transcendantes'' (ERAM 003.0123cj, 1828) was discovered in the Library of the University of London. It was found behind the title page of a copy of the first edition of Abel's ``Œuvres complètes'', which previously belonged to Augustus de Morgan. It is not known how de Morgan came into possession of the autograph. The author lists all surviving manuscripts of Abel and traces the history of them, especially the recently located. Most of Abel's works were published in the ``Journal für die Reine und Angewandte Mathematik'', founded by Leopold A. Crelle in 1826. So Crelle must have hold many manuscripts first. Later the mathematician, historian of mathematics and bibliophile Guglielmo Libri possessed some of Abel's autographs -- being a good friend of Crelle. But Libri's collection of important autograph documents was scattered already in his lifetime in auctions in London and later by his cousin and namesake in Florence. Fortunately most of the sale catalogues are conserved and provide a great deal of information about his library [The archive of Guglielmo Libri from its dispersal to the collections at the Biblioteca Moreniana. Edited by Giunia Adini and Maria Luisa Tanganelli. Dual Italian--English text. (L'archivio di Guglielmo Libri dalla sua dispersione ai fondi della Biblioteca Moreniana.) Cultura e Memoria 32. Fondi Scientifici della Biblioteca Moreniana 1. Florence: Leo S. Olschki Editore (2004; Zbl 1074.01017)]. Today the Biblioteca Moreniana in Florence holds parts of Libri's collection; some manuscripts of N. H. Abel came in the possession of the Institute Mittag-Leffler in Sweden. De Morgan may have obtained the ``Remarques'' from Libri personally or hidden in the ``Œuvres complétes'', which was sold in 1861 during an auction sale in London.
