A class of nonlinear scalar ordinary differential equations of second order is considered with homogeneous boundary conditions. The existence of a positive solution is presumed. To solve the two-point boundary value problem, the weighted residual method is discussed. The authors apply the special case of a collocation technique to determine the numerical solution. As trial functions, the authors arrange a specific basis of polynomials, which results from a Hermite interpolation using the two boundary points. The roots of the Chebyshev polynomials yield the collocation points. Numerical results confirm that the constructed technique is feasible. The authors argue that the applied weighted residual method is more efficient in comparison to the Adomian decomposition method for the considered class of problems.
