Mosquito control through habitat management has been a common practice in tropical and subtropical countries. In this paper, the authors propose the following model to represent community involvement in mosquito control, \[ \left\{ \begin{aligned} x_{n+1} & =ax_nh(py_n)+bh(qy_n), \\ y_{n+1} & = cx_n+dy_n, \end{aligned} \right. \qquad n=0,1,2,\ldots, \tag{\(*\)} \] where \(x\) and \(y\) are dynamical variables quantifying the number of breeding sites and the ``level of consciousness'', respectively. The main results are as follows. First, local stability of the equilibrium of (\(\ast\)) is analyzed. Followed by some global stability results. The approach for global stability is by constructing tight attracting and invariant rectangles. These results are illustrated explicitly by taking \(h\) to be exponential or rational, that is, \[ h(y)=e^{-y} \] or \[ h(y)=\frac {1}{1+y}. \] Moreover, biological interpretations of the above results are given, which are helpful in planning control strategies.
