Different orbits of the conformal group in the conformally compactified, complex Minkowski space \({\mathbb M}\) can be interpreted as classical phase spaces of massless and massive scalar conformal particles, antiparticles and tachyons. The purpose of the present paper is to quantize the classical phase space \({\mathbb M}^{++} \subset {\mathbb M}\) of the massive particle by replacing it by an operator C*-algebra \({\mathcal M}^{++}\). To this end the authors use the method of coherent state maps discussed by the second author in [Commun. Math. Phys. 150, No. 2, 385--413 (1992; Zbl 0768.58022)]. The idea is to associate to each \(m \in {\mathbb M}\) (i.e. a pure state of the classical system) a one-dimensional projector \({\mathcal K}(m) \in {\mathbb CP}({\mathcal H})\) on a Hilbert space \({\mathcal H}\). This \({\mathcal K}(m)\) is then interpreted as a coherent state of the quantized system. In the next step annihilation operators are introduced as those operators, which have the coherent states \({\mathcal K}(m), m \in {\mathbb M}^{++}\) as eigenvectors. They form a Banach algebra \(\overline{{\mathcal P}^{++}}\) and the quantum phase space is then introduced as the C*-algebra generated by \(\overline{{\mathcal P}^{++}}\). This paper extends exteds earlier results of the second author in [Commun. Math. Phys. 114, No.4, 577--597 (1988; Zbl 0645.53044)].
