    Let \((\Omega, T, m)\) be a measurable dynamical system and let \(A: \Omega \to M_{k\times k} (\mathbb R) \) be a measurable function such that \( \log^+ \| A(.) \| \in L_1 (m).\) \textit{H. Furstenberg} and \textit{H. Kesten} proved [Ann. Math. Stat. 31, 457--469 (1960; Zbl 0137.35501)] that there exists a measurable function \(\lambda : \Omega \to \mathbb R \cup \{\infty \} \) such that \(\lambda^+ \in L_1, \;\lambda \circ T =\lambda \) a.e. and \[ \lim_n \frac1n \log \| A(T^{n-1}x)\dots A(Tx) A(x) \| =\lambda (x) \;\;\text{a.e.} \] multiplicative ergodic theorem of \textit{V. I. Oseledec} [Trans. Mosc. Math. Soc. 19, 197-251 (1968); translation from Tr. Mosk. Math. Obshch. 19, 179--210 (1968; Zbl 0236.93034)] provides further information on the behaviour of \[ \frac1n \log \| [A(T^{n-1}x)\dots A(Tx) A(x)]v \| ,\;\;v \in \mathbb R^k. \] The broad theme of this article is to investigate the uniform convergence in the multiplicative ergodic theorem. Although the unique ergodicity of the dynamical system \((\Omega, T)\) is equivalent to the uniform convergence in the Birkhoff's ergodic theorem (for continuous functions), this is not the case for the multiplicative ergodic theorem. Hence one needs some additional conditions. The authors prove that if \((\Omega, T)\) is a minimal subshift over a finite alphabet satisfying a (technical) condition due to \textit{M. Boshernitzan} [J. Anal. Math. 44, 77--96 (1985; Zbl 0602.28008)], then \( \lim_n \frac1n \log \| A(n, w) \| \) exists for all \(w\in \Omega\) and the convergence is uniform for all continuous locally constant cocycles \(A: \mathbb Z \times \Omega \to \text{SL}(2,\mathbb R) . \) As an application, a characterization of the spectrum of a certain class of Schrödinger operators is obtained.
