Planar approximation \(P_n(f)\) of order \(n\) \((n= 1,2,\dots)\) for a function \(f: [0,1]\times [0,1]\to \mathbb{R}\) is defined by an inductive process. It is asserted that if \(f\) is jointly continuous, then the sequence \((P_n(f))\) converges uniformly to \(f\). This is no longer true if \(f\) is only separately continuous. Other types of convergence are also considered.
