Let \(D\) be a bounded and regular domain in \(\overline{\mathbb{C}}\). The paper under review deals with the convergence of a sequence of rational functions \(r_n\) which interpolate to the holomorphic function \(f:D\to \mathbb{C}\) at the points \(A_n=\{a_{ni}\}_{i=0}^n\subset D\), having fixed poles at \(B_n=\{b_{ni}\}_{i=1}^n\). Let \(\alpha_n\) and \(\beta_n\) be the normalized point counting measure of \(A_n\) and \(B_n\), respectively and \(\alpha'_n\), \(\beta'_n\) their swept measures onto \(\partial D\). \textit{A. Ambroladze} and \textit{H. Wallin} [Stud. Math. 132 No.~1, 1--14 (1999; Zbl 0917.30023)] obtained that \(\lim_n r_n= f\) locally uniformly with geometric rate when 1) \(f\) is bounded, 2) \(\cup B_n\) has no limit point in \(D\), 3) every weak-star limit point \(\alpha\) of \(\alpha_n\) satisfies \(\alpha(D)>0\) and \[ 4)\;\;\lim_n \left[\sup_{z\in \partial D}\left(\frac{n+1}{n}U_{\alpha'_n}(z)-U_{\beta'_n}(z)\right)\right]=0, \] where \(U_\mu\) stands for the logarithmic potential of \(\mu\). The author obtains a similar theorem replacing condition 1) by 1') \(f(z)={\mathcal{O}}(d(z,\partial D)^q)\), \(q<0\), and 2) by 2') \(\cup B_n\) has no limit point in \(\overline{D}\) (Theorem 1). Theorem 2 asserts that condition 4) is necessary for the validity of Theorem 1. An interesting discussion can be found in the article on the fact that condition 1') is weaker than 1), but 2') is stricter than 2). In this respect, it is proved that for the case \(D=\{| z| <1\}\), condition 1') is sharp (Proposition 1).
