The book opens with generalities on inverse and direct problems. The main body consists of six chapters: Chapter 1 deals with inverse problems of geophysics (inverse problems of seismics, inverse problems of geoelectrics, inverse problems of gravimetry and magnetometry, inverse tomography problems, problems of seismic tomography and numerical methods and algorithms). Chapter 2 deals with approximation methods for ill-posed problems and regularization methods. Chapter 3 treats integral geometry problems. Chapter 4 specializes to important one-dimensional inverse problems. Chapter 5 considers inverses for coupled Maxwell and Lamé systems. The final Chapter 6 considers some examples of numerical solution of inverse problems. The book is an excellent treatise on inverse problems of mathematical physics, it is highly recommended for senior, graduate students in mathematics and mathematical sciences, and scientists working on these areas.
