In the present paper the author continues his thorough investigation of the Bourque-Ligh conjecture, see e.g. [J. Number Theory 113, No. 1, 1--9 (2005; Zbl 1080.11022)]. The author gives a complete answer to the Bourque-Ligh conjecture in terms of the concept of an \(r\)-fold gcd-closed set. He also applies his results on lcm matrices on gcd-closed sets to lcm matrices on lcm-closed sets and reciprocal gcd matrices on gcd and lcm-closed sets with the aid of the concept of reciprocal set introduced in \textit{P. Haukkanen} and \textit{J. Sillanpää} [Linear Multilinear Algebra 41, No. 3, 233--244 (1996; Zbl 0869.15005)]. Further, the author presents results on the nonsingularity of gcd and lcm matrices associated with classes of arithmetical functions. Finally, the author states four conjectures. On the basis of a method by \textit{I. Korkee} and \textit{P. Haukkanen} [``On the divisibility of meet and join matrices'', Linear Algebra Appl. 429, No. 8--9, 1929--1943 (2008; Zbl 1157.11009)] one can deduce that Conjecture 3.1 of Hong holds.
