The authors determine the region of optimal choice of the relaxation parameter for a combination between a semi-iterative method and the classical successive overrelaxation (SOR) iteration. They find a large class of compact sets containing the spectrum of the associated Jacobi matrix for which the use of the above mentioned combined algorithm is advantageous over the sole use of SOR.
