Let \(X\) be a normed vector space and, for \(w\in X\), \(r> 0\), let \(B(w,r)\) be the open ball with center \(w\) and radius \(r\). For \(A, B\subset X\), we use the following notations: \(e(A,B)= \sup_{a\in A}d(a,B)\), \(e_{w,r}(A,B)=e(A\cap B(w,r),B)\) and \(d_{w,r}(A,B)= \max\{ e(A\cap B(w,r),B),e(B\cap B(w,r),A)\}\). Then \(\{ d_{w,r}:w\in X,\, r> 0\}\) is a family of bounded hemi-metrics and the associated convergence is metrizable. Using this family of bounded hemi-metrics and a generalized duality mapping, the author studies in a uniformly convex Banach space \(X\) the variation of the projection of a given point on a closed convex subset \(C\) of \(X\), when \(C\) varies, and obtains an estimate of this variation. Next, he proves that the projection operator on a nonempty closed convex subset of a uniformly convex Banach space is uniformly continuous on bounded sets. A short comparison with related works is given in the last part of the paper.
