The subset \(C:=\{x\in \mathbb{R}^d : x_1 \geq x_2 \dots \geq x_d\;: \sum x_i = 0 \}\subseteq \mathbb{R}^d\) can be represented in different ways as orbit space for different actions of compact Lie groups: Let \(H_d^0 \) denote the vector space of Hermitian \(d\times d-\)matrices with zero trace. Then the orbit space \(\left(H_d^0\right)^{SU(d)}\) is isomorphic to \(C\). On the other hand, \(C\) is isomorphic to the double-coset space \(SL(d,\mathbb{C}) // SU(d)\). The corresponding (commutative) hypergroup structures are denoted by \((M_b(C), * )\) and \((M_b(C), \bullet )\) respectively. The characters of these hypergroups are known to differ by a positive semi-character. This observation allows to compare the underlying convolution structures: Indeed, due to techniques developed by the second named author [Math. Z. 198, 405--421 (1988; Zbl 0677.43002)] positive semi-characters allow to construct new hypergroups, called \textit{deformations}. It is shown that \((M_b(C), \bullet )\) is a deformation of \((M_b(C),* )\). In fact, this is a particular example of a more general result which is proved in the setup of complex semisimple Lie groups with finite centre and maximal compact subgroups. In this case, \(C\) is replaced by a fundamental domain of the action of the Weyl group on the Abelian subalgebra \(\mathcal{A}\) in the Cartan decomposition \(\mathcal{G} = \mathcal{A}+\mathcal{P}\).
