Let \(A\) be a local Gorenstein ring and \(M,N\) two \(A\)-modules with finite complete intersection dimension [cf. \textit{L. L. Avramov, V. N. Gasharov} and \textit{I. V. Peeva}, Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 86, 67--114 (1997; Zbl 0918.13008)]. Then \(\text{Ext}^{i}_{A}(M,N)=0\) for \(i\gg 0\) if and only if \(\text{Ext}^{i}_{A}(N,M)=0\) for \(i\gg 0\) (this extends a result of \textit{L. L. Avramov} and \textit{R.-O. Buchweitz} [Invent. Math. 142, No. 2, 285--318 (2000; Zbl 0999.13008)]). The same result is stated if \(A\) is Gorenstein with finite representation Cohen-Macaulay type. Extensions of these results are also given for non-commutative complete semi-local algebras.
