A defect-correction parameter-uniform numerical method for a singularly perturbed convec\-tion-diffusion problem in one dimension (Q2498996)

The authors examine a variant of the standard defect-correction approach to generate numerical approximation to the solution of a singularly perturbed convection diffusion problem. The variant is designed primarily to generate a simple proof of second order uniform convergence in the case of the defect-correction method. The main interest in this paper lies not in establishing a monotone second order scheme for the convection diffusion problem, but rather in providing a simple proof of second order convergence of the numerical approximations generated from the defect-correction algorithm. Note that the method of proof given in this paper is not applicable in the case of the standard defect-correction approach. Numerical results are given to validate the presented theoretical results.
