Let \((M,\omega)\) be a \(k\)-dimensional compact Kähler manifold. A current \(T\) of bidegree \((1,1)\) on \(M\) is called harmonic if \(i\partial\overline\partial T= 0\). Any real harmonic \((1,1)\)-current \(T\) can be represented as \(T= \Omega+ \partial S+\overline{\partial S}\), where \(\Omega\) is a unique smooth \((\overline\partial\overline\partial^*+\overline\partial^*\overline\partial)\)-harmonic form and \(S\) is a \((0,1)\)-current. The energy \(E(T)\) is defined as \(E(T)= \int\overline\partial S\wedge\partial\overline S\wedge\omega^{k-2}\) when \(\overline\partial S\in L^2\). It is shown that every positive harmonic \((1,1)\)-current \(T\) has finite energy, which allows to define \[ \int T\wedge T\wedge\omega^{k-2}:= \int\Omega\wedge \Omega\wedge \omega^{k-2}- 2E(T). \] The authors then study harmonic currents directed by laminated compact sets \(X\) with singularities \(E\) (that is, \(X\setminus E\) has the structure of a lamination by Riemann surfaces) assuming \(E\) pluripolar (locally) and \(\overline{X\setminus E}= X\). It is shown that for any such lamination, there is either a closed positive laminated current on \(X\) or a (unique) positive harmonic laminated current on \(X\) minimizing energy. If \(X\) is a \(C^1\) laminated compact set in \(\mathbb{P}^2\), not containing a compact curve, then the corresponding laminated positive harmonic current \(T\) satisfies \(\int TAT= 0\); it can be obtained by an Ahlfors type construction starting with an arbitrary leaf of \(X\). The construction works also for the case of a laminated set \(X\) with singularities \(E\) totally disconnected and contained in a countable union of analytic sets.
