The author studies ECT (extended complete Chebyshev) splines of order \(n\). Their restrictions to intervals between knots are generalized polynomials belonging to different ECT systems. The connections at the knots are defined by nonsingular totally positive matrices. These functions were introduced by [\textit{P. J. Barry}, ``de-Boor-Fix dual functionals and algorithms for Chebyshev B-spline curves,'' Constructive Approximation 12, No.3, 385--408 (1996; Zbl 0854.41010)] and the particular case of piecewise ordinary polynomials with connection matrices was studied by [\textit{N. Dyn} and \textit{C. A. Micchelli}, ''Piecewise polynomial spaces and geometric continuity of curves,'' Numer. Math. 54, No.3, 319--337 (1988; Zbl 0638.65010)]. In the present paper the author, following the approach of Dyn and Micchelli, extends some known results to the more general situation described above. He constructs a basis which generalizes the truncated powers and obtains a bound for the number of zeros in the support of ECT splines, depending on the order \(n\) and the orders of the connection matrices. Then generalized B-splines are constructed and a Budan-Fourier type theorem is proved. The main part of the paper is devoted to study interpolation properties of the spline spaces for Hermite-type problems. Conditions are given for unisolvence of the problem and Vandermonde-type determinants are studied for different bases.
