This monograph is concerned with linear and nonlinear theories of composite thin-walled beams, developed by the authors and their collaborators. It also provides mathematical tools to address free vibrations, dynamic response to external excitation, and stability and control of gyroscopic and aero-elastic systems. Special attention is paid to the effects of transverse shear, warping inhibition, and various elastic couplings on the behavior of thin-walled structures. The theories of shearable and unshearable beams are compared, and the conclusion about applicability of each theory is reached. The material of the book is well presented. It starts with one-dimensional theory, and gradually the authors introduce more general models. Each chapter has a relevant reference list that includes many references to new results. After chapters 2 through 5 that are concerned with foundation of the theory of composite thin-walled beams, the authors present numerous applications of the theory, including specific structures of mechanical and aeronautical/aerospace engineering type. Special attention is paid to non-classical effects such as primary and secondary warping, transverse shear effects and anisotropy. The book will be of interest to all those working in the field of thin-walled structures. Specifically, graduate students in mechanical and aerospace engineering and applied mathematics as well as practicing engineers will find new and important results in this book.
