This volume includes research papers dedicated by their authors to Professor Donald Edward Grierson on the occasion of his retirement from the University of Waterloo, Canada. It contains 8 sections, with 73 papers in the area of structural engineering, applied mechanics and construction management. Most of the papers present original research results, while some papers review special research areas. The first part is devoted to plenary presentations, namely: 1. ``Forty years of engineering structures, mechanics and construction research at the University of Waterloo'' by \textit{M. Z. Cohn} and \textit{D. E. Grierson}; 2. ``Isospectral vibrating systems'' by \textit{G. M. L. Gladwell}; 3. ``Cold-formed steel research at the University of Waterloo'' by \textit{R. M. Schuster}. The second section deals with concrete structures in civil engineering, while the third parts analyses steel structures. A special look is given to cold-formed steel behaviour. The next section presents various aspects of engineering mechanics and applied mathematics. The sixth part includes papers on structural optimization, while the last two sections deal with engineering reliability and construction management. This massive work is recommended to civil engineers, mechanical engineers and applied mathematicians.
