The main result of this paper is the following. Let \((\Omega,\Sigma,\mu)\) and \((\Omega',\Sigma',\nu)\) be separable atomless probability spaces and let \(1< p<\infty\), \(1\leq q< \infty\) with \(p\neq q\). Then every regular integral operator \(T: L^p(\mu)\to L^q(\nu)\) is strictly singular, i.e., the restriction of \(\Gamma\) to any infinite-dimensional (closed) subspace of \(X\) is not an isomorphism.
