Lower bounds for the bottom of the negative spectrum of the perturbed Laplace-Beltrami operator on a weighted Riemannian manifold \((M,\mu)\) which admits an \(F\)-Sobolev inequality \[ \int_{M} | u |^{2} F(| u |^{2})\,d\mu \leq \int_{M} | \nabla u |^{2} \,d\mu,\quad u \in L^{2} (M, \text{d}\mu),\quad \int_{M} | u |^{2}\,d\mu =1 \] are obtained. Here \(\mu\) is a measure on \(M\) with a positive smooth density with respect to the Riemannian measure and \(F\) is a positive non-decreasing function. Several examples illustrate these results. One proves also a partial converse, namely one proves that an estimate for the first negative eigenvalue implies that an \(F\)-Sobolev inequality holds on \(M\).
