Let \(A\) be a one-dimensional domain with field of fractions \(F\). Geller has conjectured that the natural map \(K_2(A) \to K_2(F)\) is injective if and only if \(A\) is regular. Suppose further that \(A\) is essentially of finite type over an algebraically closed field \(K\) of characteristic 0. Then Berger has conjectured that \(A\) is regular if and only if the module \(\Omega_{A/K}\) of Kähler differentials is torsion-free. In this paper, it is shown that Berger implies Geller. Thus Geller's conjecture is now confirmed for many additional types of ring. The argument depends on a comparison of the Mayer-Vietoris sequences in \(K\)-theory and in Hochschild homology.
