    Let \(\mathbb{C} G\) be the complex group algebra of a group \(G\) and let \(K_0(\mathbb{C} G)\) be the \(K\)-theory group of the ring \(\mathbb{C} G\). Let \(r_{HS}\colon K_0(\mathbb{C} G)\to\mathbb{C} G/[\mathbb{C} G,\mathbb{C} G]\) be the Hattori-Stallings map (see \textit{A. Hattori} [Nagoya Math. J. 25, 113-120 (1965; Zbl 0142.28001)], or \textit{J. Stallings} [Topology 4, 129-134 (1965; Zbl 0201.36001)]). If \(E\) is an idempotent matrix with entries in \(\mathbb{C} G\), then \(r_{HS}(E)\) can be expressed as a linear combination of the form \(\sum r_g(E)[g]\), where \(r_g(E)\in\mathbb{C}\) and \([g]\) denotes the \(G\)-conjugacy class of the element \(g\in G\). In this paper the author studies the properties of the coefficients \(r_g(E)\). Thus he generalizes some known results for the traces of idempotent elements in the group rings.
