Multiplicity and stability of closed geodesics on Finsler 2-spheres (Q2502558)

After a brief history of the studies of closed geodesics mainly on 2-spheres, the author presents two results. The first theorem, developed by V. Bangert and the author, settles the conjectures of \textit{D. V. Anosov} [Am. Math. Soc., Transl., II. Ser. 109, 81--85 (1977; Zbl 0368.53045)] and of \textit{W. Ziller} [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst 3, 135--157 (1983; Zbl 0559.58027)] for the sphere \(S^2\). The second is a stabilty result, obtained by Wei Wang and the author. The paper includes as well five new conjectures regarding closed geodesics in Riemann and Finsler \(n\)-dimensional spheres (\(n\geq2\)).
