The authors study oscillatory properties of solutions of the superlinear Emden-Fowler fourth order differential equation \[ y^{(iv)}+q(t)|y|^{\alpha}\text{sgn}\;y=0, \] where \(q\) is a positive continuous functions. The main results of the paper can be summarized as follows: (1) If \((q(t)t^{(3\alpha+5)/2})^{\prime}\geq 0\) then the above equation has oscillatory solutions. (2) If \(\lim_{t\to \infty}q(t)t^{4+\lambda(\alpha-1)}=0\), \(\lambda>0\), then every solution is either nonoscillatory or satisfies \(\limsup_{t\to \infty} t^{-\mu +i}|y^{(i)}(t)|=0\) for \(\mu <\lambda\) and \(i=0,1,2,3,4\). (3) Let \(\frac{3}{2}<\lambda<\frac{\sqrt{5}}{2}\). If \(\lim_{t\to \infty} q(t)t^{4+\lambda(\alpha-1)}=k>0\) and \((q(t)t^{4+\lambda(\alpha-1)})^{\prime}\geq 0\), then every solution is oscillatory or satisfies \(\limsup_{t\to \infty} t^{-\lambda}|y(t)|=\infty\). A related paper is \textit{T. Kura} [Hiroshima Math. J. 13, 653--664 (1983; Zbl 0535.34028)] which deals with the complementary case \(q(t)<0\).
