The paper deals with generalized plane strain problems describing steady-state vibrations of an unbounded piezoelectric medium. In this case all field quantities (i.e. displacements and electric potential) depend only on two in-plane coordinates and time. First, the corresponding governing system of equations is written, which consists of a purely elastic part with respect to in-plane displacement components, and of a second part describing piezoelectric coupling between the out-of-plane displacement component and electric potential. In the studied case each part can be considered separately. Therefore, one part of the system can be written in a form similar to the equations of steady-state vibrations of a classical isotropic elastic medium. The remaining part reduces to Helmholtz equation for displacement and Poisson's equation for elastic potential. Then, the authors formulate Sommerfeld-type radiation conditions which allow to prove the uniqueness of solution for the corresponding exterior Dirichlet and Neumann boundary value problems. Further, the representation formulas for fundamental and singular solutions are found in explicit form. In order to prove the representation theorem for the matrix of fundamental solutions, the authors introduce potential and solenoidal components. Finally, the above results are used together with boundary integral equation method to reduce the corresponding boundary value problems to systems of singular integral equations, whose analysis leads to exact solutions of the boundary value problems in the form of integral potentials.
