A \(d\)-simplex in \(R^d\) is said to be acute if all its dihedral angles are smaller than \(\frac{\pi}{2}\). Furthermore, \(d\)-simplices \(S_1,\dots,S_k\) surround a point \(A\in R^d\) if \(A\) is a vertex of each of them, lies in the interior of the union of all of them, and \(S_1,\dots,S_k\) form a partition of this union. The author shows that a point \(A\in R^5\) cannot be surrounded by finitely many acute 5-simplices. This implies that there is no face-to-face partition of \(R^5\) into acute 5-simplices, and for \(d>5\) such a partition is excluded by induction. It is known that an analogous partition for \(d=3\) exists, but the interesting conjecture is posed that there is no partition of \(R^4\) into acute 4-simplices.
