The author considers the motion of an inviscid, incompressible, irrotational fluid in a region \(\Omega\subset[0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^3\) with free boundary: \[ \partial_t v+ v\cdot\nabla v=-g(0,0,1)-\nabla p,\quad\text{div\,}v= 0,\quad \text{curl\,}v= 0, \] together with the boundary conditions on \(\Sigma_t\): \[ p= 0\quad\text{on }\Sigma_t,\quad (1,v)\text{ is tangent to }(t,\Sigma_t), \] where \(v= (v_1,v_2,v_3)\) is the velocity of the fluid, \(p\) is the fluid pressure, \(g\) the gravitational force, and \(\Sigma_t\) is the boundary of \(\Omega_t= \{x\in\mathbb{R}^3\mid (t,x)\in\Omega\}\). The author finds a much simpler energy functional for the problem under consideration and presents a priori energy estimate for a positive time depending only on the initial data.
