Consider the boundary value problem \[ \begin{gathered} (g(y) y')'+ f(t,y)= 0\qquad\text{a.e. on }[a,n],\\ y(a)= a_0,\;y(n)= b_0\end{gathered} \] with \(n>a\). The authors justify a new upper and lower solution theory on a finite interval by the Leray-Schauder alternative, and on an infinite interval via a diagonalization process.
