The lower dimensional Busemann--Petty problem deals with two convex bodies in \(n\)-dimensional space which are centrally symmetric with respect to some point \(p\). If, for some \(k\in \{2,\dots,n-1\}\), the \(k\)-dimensional sections through \(p\) of the first body have smaller \(k\)-volume than for the second, must the first body have smaller volume than the second? In Euclidean space, it is known that the answer is negative if \(k>3\); the cases \(k=2,3\) are still open if \(n>4\). In the present paper, the author shows that in hyperbolic space the answer is negative for all \(k\). The proof employs the Fourier transform method and positive definite distributions.
