This paper studies continuous isometry-invariant valuations on \({\mathcal P}({\mathbb H}^n)\), the space of polytopes (compact or with vertices at infinity) in the hyperbolic space \({\mathbb H}^n\). For \(n=2\), such valuations are completely classified (in analogy to Hadwiger's characterization theorem for the Euclidean plane, but there is an additional valuation in the hyperbolic case); the simple ones are multiples of the hyperbolic area. One of the presented applications is a kinematic formula for continuous invariant valuations in \({\mathbb H}^2\). In odd-dimensional spaces \({\mathbb H}^{2n+1}\) it is shown that any continuous isometry-invariant valuation is uniquely determined by its values on ideal simplices.
