Let \(G\) be an almost simple simply connected algebraic group defined and split over the prime field \(\mathbb{F}_p\). Consider an indecomposable summand \(S\) of a tensor product of two simple \(G\)-modules that have restricted highest weight. Doty has asked for which such \(G\) it is true that the restriction of \(S\) to the first Frobenius kernel \(G_1\) is always indecomposable. It is shown that the only cases are: the rank one group in any characteristic and for \(p=2\) the types \(A_2\) and \(B_2=C_2\). To arrive at this result the author studies the \(G_1\)-Steinberg block.
