The authors prove gradient estimates for the positive solutions of the porous medium equations and the fast diffusion equations \[ u_t = \Delta_{\phi}(u^p) \] associated with the Witten Laplacian on Riemannian manifolds. Assuming that the \(m\)-dimensional Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature is bounded from below, the authors derive an analogue of the estimates \textit{P. Lu} et al. [J. Math. Pures Appl. (9) 91, No. 1, 1--19 (2009; Zbl 1156.58015)] (when \(p>0\) and \(p\neq 1\)) and a Davies type estimate. Moreover when \(p>1\) they get a Hamilton type estimate and an analogue of Li and Xu estimates. More precisely, they obtain some gradient estimates that generalize some previous results by Lu et al. and Huang et al. As applications, they get several parabolic Harnack inequalities. Moreover, following X.-D. Li's work, they extend the entropy formulae introduced by Lu et al. to the porous medium equations and the fast diffusion equations associated with the Witten Laplacian. Lastly they prove some monotonicity theorems for such entropy on compact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative \(m\)-dimensional Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature.
