Algebras of pseudo-differential operators give a nice framework for applications of operator theory to other fields of mathematics and physics: differential equations or partial differential equations, mathematical physics, etc. Yet sometimes, one can have to extend this (nice) class of operators to a larger one, in order to study peculiar phenomena that require precise technicalities. This is the case for the algebra of pseudo-differential operators with nonsmooth symbols (see, e.g., [\textit{M. Beals} and \textit{M. Reed}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 285, 159--184 (1984; Zbl 0562.35093)]), or Fourier-integral operators. The authors consider here an algebra of operators acting on the Schwarz space \(\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R}^N,\mathbb{C})\) that contains pseudo-differential operators, and also operators arising in the study of subelliptic estimates on pseudo-convex domains. These operators have a symbol and carry a well defined symbolic calculus. The paper deals with the standard properties that one can guess for such operators: composition of symbols, kernel representation, \(L^p\)-estimates. The extension of the results to operators acting on smooth maps from a compact manifold \(X\) to \(\mathbb{C}\) is also briefly described, as well as an application.
