Let \(\Gamma\) be the closed symmetrized bidisc, that is, the set \(\Gamma=\{(z_1+z_2)\in\mathbb{C}^2:| z_1|\leq 1,\,| z_2|\leq1\}\). We recall that a pair of Hilbert space operators \((S,P)\) is said to be a \(\Gamma\)-contraction if \(\Gamma\) is a spectral set for \((S,P)\). A characterization of \(\Gamma\)-contractions was given by \textit{J. Agler} and \textit{N. J. Young} in [J. Funct. Anal. 161, No. 2, 452--477 (1999; Zbl 0943.47005)]. In particular, Agler and Young showed the existence of a normal distinguished boundary dilation for a \(\Gamma\)-contraction. In this paper, the author constructs an explicit normal distinguished boundary dilation for a \(\Gamma\)-contraction, via a Stinespring dilation given by Agler and Young. The author also discusses the minimality of such a dilation and describes a model \(\Gamma\)-contraction in a corresponding model space.
