In this paper, the authors develop a nested approach for building epidemiological models coupling within-host and between-host dynamics. The approach starts with a PDE formulation and arrives at an abstract formulation for some epidemic models. In a model case, a numerical scheme for the solution is presented and the illustrating results are discussed.
