The authors study the codimension-two bifurcation which occurs when a fixed point of a two-dimensional map undergoes a saddle-node bifurcation and, simultaneously, the unstable manifold of the fixed point makes a nontransversal tangency with the stable manifold of the fixed point. Each of the following codimension-one cases have been previously studied: a saddle fixed point undergoing a homoclinic tangency, and a fixed point with a transversal homoclinic orbit undergoing a saddle-node bifurcation. The authors unfold the bifurcation with two parameters, one controlling the saddle-node bifurcation and the other controlling the tangency of the fixed point's unstable manifold. They analyse the dynamics by creating two maps: one local to the fixed point and one global, and then composing them. Among their results they find a countable set of disjoint domains in parameter space, near the codimension-two bifurcation, in each of which the map has a stable periodic orbit.
