For a simple polytope \(P\) of dimension \(n\) with facets \(F_1,\ldots,F_m\), one considers a simplicial complex \(K_P\), defined as the boundary of the dual simplicial polytope of \(P\). More concretely, it is an \((n-1)\)-dimensional simplicial complex on \([m]\) with faces being subsets \(\{i_1,\ldots,i_r\}\) such that \(F_{i_1}\cap \cdots \cap F_{i_r} \neq \emptyset\). The moment-angle manifold \(\mathcal Z_P\) associated to \(P\) is defined to be the moment-angle complex of \(K_P\). Recall that for a simplicial complex \(K\) on \([m]\), the moment-angle complex associated to \(K\) is the CW-complex \(\mathcal Z_K\) given by \(\bigcup_{I\in K}(\prod_{i\in I} D^2 \times \prod_{i\notin I} S^1)\), which is contained as a subcomplex in \((D^2)^{\times m}\). If \(K\) is a triangulation of a sphere then \(\mathcal Z_K\) turns out to be a smooth, compact manifold. Let \(\Bbbk\) is a base field. By a result of \textit{V. M. Buchstaber} and \textit{T. E. Panov} [Toric topology. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2015; Zbl 1375.14001)], the cohomology ring of \(\mathcal Z_K\) with coefficients in \(\Bbbk\) is computed via the Tor algebra of the Stanley-Reisner ring \(\Bbbk[K]\) of \(K\). In particular, the cohomology ring of \(\mathcal Z_K\) is related to the graded Betti numbers of \(\Bbbk[K]\). For example, Hochster's formula for Betti numbers of \(\Bbbk[K]\) can also be derived from Buchstaber-Panov's theorem. In this paper, when the simple polytope \(P\) is obtained from a product of simplicial complexes by repeated cutting out of vertices, the author computes the Betti numbers of the Stanley-Reisner rings of \(K_P\) (Theorem 2.4). He also characterizes certain Golod property of such Stanley-Reisner rings (Theorem 3.2). Topological consequences on the manifold \(\mathcal Z_P\) are also discussed.
