Let \(\mathbb{K}\) be a field and \(S=\mathbb{K}[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) be the polynomial ring in \(n\) variables over the field \(\mathbb{K}\). Free resolutions of monomial ideals of \(S\) (or free resolutions of more complicated objects) sometimes admit structure given by CW complexes. Such resolutions are called cellular resolution and are intensely studied. In the paper under review, the authors continue this study by proving that the Eliahou-Kervaire resolution of a Cohen-Macaulay stable monomial ideal is supported by a regular CW complex whose underlying space is a closed ball. It is also shown that the modified Eliahou-Kervaire resolution of variants of a Borel fixed ideal (e.g., a squarefree strongly stable ideal) are supported by regular CW complexes, and their underlying spaces are closed balls in the Cohen-Macaulay case.
