The article under review deals with the boundedness of Fourier convolution operators \(W^0(b)\) and the compactness of commutators of \(W^0(b)\) with multiplication operators \(aI\) on some Banach function spaces \(X(\mathbb R)\). The results presented in this paper are complement to a series of results obtained in [\textit{I. de la Cruz-Rodriguez} et al., Commun. Math. Anal. 17, No. 2, 131--150 (2014; Zbl 1319.47033); \textit{R. V. Duduchava}, Proc. A. Razmadze Math. Inst. 60, 135 p. (1979; Zbl 0429.45002); the author and \textit{I. L. Hernández}, in: Operator theory, pseudo-differential equations, and mathematical physics. The Vladimir Rabinovich anniversary volume. Basel: Birkhäuser/Springer. 185--207 (2013; Zbl 1297.47051)]. A necessary condition for the boundedness of a convolution operator \(W^0(a)\) on the space \(X(\mathbb R, w)\) with bound involving the norm of \(a\) in a unital non-separable Banach algebra \(V(\mathbb R)\) of functions of bounded total variation on \(\mathbb R\) is given. Then, a similar necessary condition in a commutative Banach algebra \(SO_\lambda^3\) is also given. The algebras of functions \(C(\dot{\mathbb R})\), \(C(\overline{\mathbb R}), PC, SO^{\diamond}, QC, PSO^{\diamond}\), are defined and it is observed that all are subalgebras of the algebra \(PQC\) of piecewise continuous functions and the corresponding algebras \(C_{X, w}(\overline{\mathbb R}), PC_{X, w}, SO_{X, w}^{\diamond}, PSO_{X, w}^{\diamond}\). Finally, the author provides necessary conditions for the compactness of commutator \(aW^0(b)-W^0(b)aI\) on the weighted Lebesgue space \(L^p(\mathbb R, w)\).
