The hypergroup structure of the sequences of real one-variable orthogonal polynomials which satisfy product-to-sum decomposition formula with positive coefficients is considered. The multiplicative inverses of integral norms of these polynomials form sequences \(h(n)\) and the sequence spaces \(\ell^1(h)\) are investigated. Three concepts of amenability of \(\ell^1(h)\) together with detailed description of known results concerning their mutual interplay are recalled - point amenability, weak amenability and amenability. The general results of this paper comprise of several necessary and sufficient conditions for weak amenability. Taking into account Jacobi polynomials, an example of a polynomial hypergroup is found such that \(\ell^1(h)\) is weakly amenable but non-amenable. The determining parameters of the class of Jacobi polynomials leading to point amenable and weakly amenable structure \(\ell^1(h)\) are explicitly found. Similarly are specified parameters of symmetric Polaczek, random walk, associated ultraspherical and cosh-polynomials.
