The main aim of this paper is to prove (Theorem 1 in the paper) stating that Fano manifolds admitting Kähler-Einstein metrics do so in an essentially unique manner (i.e., if there are two such metrics, then they are isometric via a biholomorphic map arising from a holomorphic vector field). This theorem of Bando-Mabuchi admits several proofs. The main point of the current paper is to prove it using the following strategy: There is a weak (\(C^{1,1}\)) geodesic in the infinite-dimensional space of Kähler potentials connecting the two Kähler-Einstein (KE) metrics (due to Chen). The Ding functional (whose critical points are KE metrics) is convex along this weak geodesic (Theorem 11). Therefore the functional is constant along the geodesic. Ideally, if this geodesic were smooth then this means that according to Futaki's spectral formula, one can generate a holomorphic vector field and prove the main theorem. However, since the geodesic is not smooth, one has to put in a significant amount of effort to construct this holomorphic vector field (Theorem 5) using \(\bar{\partial}\) techniques of several complex variables.
