The author proposes a scheme for performing time-domain simulations with the discontinuous Galerkin method on anisotropically defined \(hp\)-meshes in the Euclidean three-dimensional space. A central idea is to interchange the role of the reference mesh and the solution mesh in the construction of the error estimate. The implementation is restricted to orthogonal hexahedral meshes, which imposes limitations for the modeling of arbitrary structures. Examples include the propagation in a waveguide and the folded patch antenna.
